ABOUT THE RANGE

Engaging in the Service Rifle discipline, we utilize a wide range of  military-style rifles spanning different types and eras, all equipped with  iron sights and boasting magazine capacities of 5 rounds or greater.  The rapid fire stages within this category demand swift reloads or  magazine changes, adding an element of speed and skill to the challenge. Additionally, we partake in Scoped Sporting Rifle competitions, akin to our  Service Rifle matches but tailored for hunting-style rifles. These rifles can  feature optional telescopic sights and magazines accommodating 4 rounds  or more, without the necessity for rapid loading maneuvers.

SHOOTING

As endorsed by the SA High Power Rifle Association (SAHPRA), the Service Rifle course of fire comprises the following stages:

  • 10 rounds standing slow fire in 10 minutes at 200 m
  • 10 rounds rapid fire (5 reload 5) sitting or kneeling from standing  in 60 seconds at 200 m
  • 10 rounds rapid fire (5 reload 5) prone from standing in 70 seconds  at 300 m
  • 10 rounds prone slow fire in 10 minutes at 300 m

The targets are equipped with "bull's-eye" markings, featuring X, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, and 5 scoring rings, accompanied by a circular black aiming mark that varies in size depending on the distance. During the slow fire stages, the butt markers mark and score each shot, whereas in the rapid fire stages, scoring occurs at the conclusion of the timed target exposure. This course presents a demanding challenge, especially in the standing stage.

SHOOTING PROGRAM

The High Power Rifle discipline encompasses iron-sighted Service and service style rifles, divided into four classes: Service Rifle, Veteran, Classic, and Modern, accommodating rifles from the Anglo-Boer War to the present. Across all classes, a blade foresight and open or aperture rear sight are mandatory. The High Power Sporting Rifle discipline is customized for hunting rifles, whether equipped with or without telescopic sights, and is crafted to offer streamlined firing procedures. In line with this focus, a Sporting Rifle class has been incorporated into the shooting regulations. Just like the Service Rifle category, the course of fire involves both 200 and 300-metre stages. In cases where a 300m rifle range is unavailable, scaled-down targets can be employed at shorter distances. SAHPRA offers sets of targets tailored for use at 100m.
