We are the passionate home for enthusiasts of military-style rifles. Introduced to South Africa in 2003, our journey began with the American National Rifle Association's (NRA) High Power Rifle discipline. This sport warmly welcomes owners of bolt-action and self-loading military rifles like the 303 Lee-Enfield, 303 P-14, Mauser, FN, Garand, LM4/5, Mini-14, and AR15, offering a thrilling and fulfilling experience for all. Join us and become a part of this exciting legacy in the world of target shooting.
The term "High Power Rifle" often leads to misconceptions for those not well-versed in this prominent target shooting discipline. To clarify, "High Power" is merely the American counterpart of what the British Commonwealth countries refer to as "Fullbore" (distinct from "Smallbore"). As per the NRA's definition, it encompasses "any center fire rifle." In practice, this covers a range of center fire rifles from 0.223" (5.56 mm) to approximately 30 calibre (e.g., 0.303", 7.62 mm, 30-06, etc.), even extending to intermediate calibers like 0.243" and 0.270".
Our Association's goals encompass: Promoting and overseeing the High Power Rifle (HPR) discipline in South Africa for sport and recreation. Our shooting rules, inspired by the American National Rifle Association's guidelines, are tailored to South African conditions. Assisting new HPR shooters with training and guidance. Arranging SAHPRA matches on local, provincial, and national scales. Cultivating connections with international HPR governing bodies and facilitating collaborative competitions between them and our Association.
